  i have wanted to share this event with you all for the longest time, and i am finally ready.

  oddly enough, i still feel ashamed that this happened to me, although i understand it wasn't my fault.

  the story begins in the late seventies, and i was about twelve years old...... i lived in a very small town in the midwest.

  thank you, Little Witch, for sharing your story. I hope you have put it behind you and moved forward with your life, lucky you are for rebelling against it. Those of us raised in that faith ( and I include myself) do not always have the fondest memories of childhood.

  I had a similar experience as a child. I think your step mother was harsh in her treatment of a 12 year old girl, I am so sorry . Although my parents were JWs, and very zealous, they did treat me kindly as a child. ( I cannot hold the lack of birthdays, and xmas against them).

  Now that I have children of my own, I try to remember when I was that age, and am very pleased to see that my children are growing up in a much healthier, open minded environment. I take great pleasure in reliving childhood ( with all the holidays--and no Armageddon "stories" !) through my children.

  Oh they did have us on a leash! LOL

  After I left that faith ( having been raised in it), I did not do anything stupid ( wracked with demons, drug addict, fornicator! etc, etc) Sex comes naturally to all of us at a certain age, and at 22, I think I had a late start ( very good excuse, though) . I do not consider that "stupid conduct" ( in hindsight, the sex was great! That was before the days of AIDS) Experimenters now HAVE to be careful.

  My parents had instilled some scruples in me irregardless of what the JWs taught. By the time I left, I did have some ability to think for myself..

  When I was in college, ( having just recently left the "truth", circa 1980, ) I was waiting tables at a restaurant in NYC, and one young couple I was waiting on were visiting NY from Colorado. I could tell from their conversation ( JW lingo) that they were Witnesses, so I initroduced myself and said I was a former JW . They were thrilled ( not with the sites of NYC, but with seeing Bethel) to be visiting Jehovahs Headquarters.

  The husband (about my age) condescendingly told me that at one time he had left and truth and had turned to drugs. He asked me if I had done drugs too. My response to him was " Drugs? no, I do not do drugs, I am not stupid". I explained that I was attending college and did not agree with the teachings of JWs, especially about higher education. They attempted to do their witness routine.

  I recall they left me a meager tip. Dam those cheap JWs, LOL

  I am not in cognito on this website and have always signed my name. It would be nice to have a reunion with one of the many JW friends I had growing up who may have wandered into this website also.

  Is anyone from the Huntington ,Long Island , New York USA congregation from the 1960, -70s? If so, drop me line to catch up .

  I am agnostic. After choking down all those Watchtower teachings my entire life, I have an aversion to taking ANY religion seriously. However I am interested in all religions on a philisophical level. But to actually believe in them is a far stretch for me.

  Seen any good movies lately?

  the husband and i went to see "house of the dead" the other night, and 30 minutes into it we had to leave because it was so horrible.

  rarely have i seen such bad acting outside of a highschool drama performance, and i have never left during a movie.. thing is, i love going to the movies, so it was a major disappointment.

  have you seen any good ones lately?

  surgery tomorrow

  wednesday is the big day.i am going in for rotator cuff surgery and i am very nervous.i have lived in pain now for 6months not wanting to do this but the time has come.i am also going to have bone spurs dug out that have grown into the cuff.

  the scarriest part is the pain ,i am in so much now and i know it will be worse.wish me luck and lots of pain killers.

  i am an ex-dubite, after twenty years slaving for the organization.

  i decided to call it quits roughly only one year ago this month, after a spur of the moment decision never to go again.

  what does it take to become a circuit overseer?.

  the watchtower bible track society relies very heavily upon these men to make sure that they have a tight grip on each congregation.. the structure for control that the wt.

  has in place needs it's eyes and ears to find out whether or not a congregation is following all the rules that the wt has laid out for it.

  Badgers explanation hits the reality: these circuit overseers are no different than the "worldly" players of any myriad of successful corporations. Corporate America is filled with the same personality profiles. The narrow thinking , lack of ability to reason, and "judgement day" mentality holds the average person in their place, and allows the ladder climbers to move on.

  Unfortunately most do take it seriously ( I know I did, at an early age anyway).

  I always wondered as a child why my father had to work for a living, and the circuit overseer did not. Yet they always took advantage of my parents generousity, always stayed with us, and when we were travelnig, my parents gave them the keys to the house and cars. Even as a child I saw them as freeloaders.
